Some of the best places to visit in Italy with children:
One of my favourite locations in Italy to explore with family is the beautiful old town of Gaeta and the stunning white sand beaches of Serapo, Scissure and Sperlonga and along to the stunning Terracina.
It has everything you could want to do in a few days in Italy: swim in the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea, with beautiful white sand.
Fish with just a net, and then trick your grandfather by putting a fish from the local seafood stand in the net for a photograph!!
Then cook the fish for tea!
Wander the marina (Base Nautica Flavio Gioia S.P.A), and sometimes spot the most amazing jellyfish. (This one kept us entertained for a long long time!!). It felt like it was following us along.
And if you are still looking for places to visit in Italy with children, you can’t go past meeting the locals. This man was crab fishing, and invited my son to have a go!
Be wowed by the beautiful vista of Gaeta at dusk. Imagine having your family portrait on your wall back home after your holiday in Italy, with this as the backdrop!
Test all the gelato shops. Discuss for hours your favourite flavours!! My sons is : Gelato al Puffo, which translates to Smurf Ice-cream (and is bright blue!!) . And closely followed by Crema, which is a traditional custard flavoured gelato, make from milk, sugar and egg yolks.
My favourites are Café (coffee of course!!). And Cioccolato fondente, which is another Italian classic, and means dark (very dark and intense) chocolate. So coffee and dark chocolate at the same time, what more could one want!
Eat the local cuisine, a plate of prosciutto and melon anyone? I was in shock when I ordered this. The husband ordered a piece of pizza and I ordered the prosciutto and melon. I of course thought I can’t imagine there would be much, but I love prosciutto a lot!! I think I get the better deal out of the two of us. I did let him have a little (but only a little, as it was so so amazing).
And lastly, wandering the streets of the beautiful, historic city of Gaeta. Its an easy day trip from Rome or Naples, or you could base yourself near one of the white sand beaches for a week. Choose a gorgeous villa, and visit Rome, Naples and the Amalfi Coast with day trips.
